Protein is more than one food

Protein foods contribute to normal growth and tissue maintenance, but no single source needs to appear every day. Eggs, dairy, fish, chicken, beans, chickpeas and lentils can all be part of a varied family pattern.

Variety also brings different tastes, textures and accompanying nutrients. A lentil dish one day and grilled chicken another makes the menu more interesting and flexible.

Keep portions child-friendly

More is not automatically better. Serve protein as one part of a balanced plate alongside grains and vegetables, and allow the child’s appetite to guide how much is finished.

Use familiar formats

Try beans in a mild wrap, egg in a sandwich, lentils with rice or fish in a child-friendly bowl. Familiar presentation can help students explore a wider range of protein foods without pressure.

Please remember: For diagnosed allergies, medical conditions or individual nutrition concerns, follow guidance from a qualified healthcare professional and your school's official care process.
